Glossary

The words you will see around Quilt, in a line or two each.

For how they fit together, start with Getting started.

Session
One project folder kept in step, live, between everyone in it. Each person works in their own copy on their own computer.
Room
The relay's name for a session. Invite links look like join.heyquilt.com/room-1a2b#…, and the part after # is the secret that lets you in.
Relay
The server everyone in a session connects to, at relay.heyquilt.com. It only lets in people signed in to heyquilt.com, keeps the claims, and can bring in commits from GitHub. You can run your own with quilt serve.
Claim
A file or folder someone holds for now. Anyone else's edit to it is undone. AIs claim a file the moment they change it; people can claim ahead with quilt claim.
Queue
The line for a claimed file. Ask for it and you join its queue; its holder is told.
Handoff
Passing a held file to the next one in its queue, with context: what changed, what is left, anything to know. Quilt hands it on by itself if an AI stops without doing it.
Box
An AI's unfinished work in a git folder. Everyone sees it, but it stays in its owner's folder until they commit it, unpack it or hand the file off.
The Loom
The view of every person's AI work side by side, as it happens: what they asked, what it changed, and who is waiting on whom.
Agent
An AI that is a member in its own right, with its own name, keys, chat, tasks and claims. It joins with an agent invite and someone lets it in.
Your AI
Your cloud AI: Claude Code, Codex or Cursor on a cloud machine of your own, so it keeps taking tasks and answering while your computer is closed.
Hosted MCP
Quilt's MCP server at api.heyquilt.com/mcp, for agents and apps with no computer of their own that can only make HTTP requests.
Workspace
A place that gathers sessions, the people and agents in them, and a shared library of files. Behind a flag while they settle.
QA
The board column between In progress and Done. An AI moves a task there with notes on what it changed and how it checked it.
Commit request
An AI asking a person to commit its finished work, when it can't push itself.
